MINOR MATTERS MAGAZINE by Penny Lennard
Brewing some of the finest ales in the West Country amongst which is OLD MOGGIE named after the Under Brewers Morris 1000 (“we always knew when he was arriving due to the unique sound of the engine”), and brewed to commemorate 60 golden years of the Morris Minor.

Such a classic work horse should be remembered for its style from the era when the British car industry was thriving. There can be no better way of saluting such a legend than with good ale.

Teignworthy Brewery at the malting beer festival

Those of you who enjoyed The Maltings Beer Festival would have found hundred of beautiful beers to sample. An exciting event where old friends meet, in and out of Trade, with ales and breweries to discuss, the current climate in the industry, new ales found and enjoyed!!!

One to look out for is MARTHA’S MILD 5.3%, a sweet ruby red, ale with a biscuit background. John Lawton was extremely pleased with this years results for his cask ales in the ‘Porters, Strong Milds, Old Ales and Stout Category’ where he won 1st prize and also 3rd in the ‘Overall Champion Category’ - WHAT A RESULT!!! This is the result from judging 265 different ales from all over the West Country so it is very pleasing for everyone here at Teignworthy Brewery. By coming 3rd overall we were also the top Devon Brewery in the Beer Festival for 2009.

The ale is named after John’s daughter Martha, who proudly holds the cup with two of her brothers and sisters Harvey and Pippa, who also have good ales named after them! As does their oldest sister Amy who has won numerous awards over the years.
Martha’s mild is out in the pubs now for ‘May Mild Month’. If your local freehouse hasn’t got it you may like to ask them to stock it.

WELL DONE JOHN AND ALL THE GANG AT TEIGNWORTHY!! CHEERS!

We are now entering our 16th year and John’s 22nd in the brewing industry!
He knows time is calling when a fellow brewer said it was nice to see an older brewer collecting a prize at last years Maltings Festival, amongst a load of newer understudies! Time and experience are paving the way in increasing sales at Teignworthy no matter what the economic climate. We have just added two new brews to our guest beer range – Gundog and Harbour Lights – and both are selling very well in January. Gundog has a very suitable pump clip with two Labrador dogs mirroring the brewery dogs Teal and Twiggy. This was a well chosen picture from Heather – her ability to find appropriate cards is brilliant, don’t we all know it lads.
